You should be doing things because they are what you want and you enjoy it, not because you are trying to impress others. Do what you love, and are good at instead of what you think will gain recognition. It should be more important that you are doing something you like, not doing something to make others like you. You will not get the recognition you crave this way. However if you do things because you want to you may just be surprised at the recognition you get for that. Don’t follow, lead.
